Course Description

 

COURSE FEE:  $300


The Monitoring Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen Sedation course at Dental Assisting Preparatory Academy is designed to educate Dental Assistant I, Dental Assistant II and Dental Hygienists to certify in supervision of patients undergoing inhalation sedation under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist in the State of North Carolina.

This is a one day, in-person course. 

 

Topics Include: 

  • History of Nitrous Oxide
  • Aspects of pain and anxiety.
  • Various states of drug-induced SNS depression.
  • Patient qualifying and management. 
  • Recognizing, preventing and managing complications. 
  • Anatomy and physiology as related to sedation. 
  • Pharmacology of N2O. 
  • Potential hazards and how to minimuze those hazards. 
  • Proper use and maintenance of sedation equipment.  

     

    The course will consist of didactic instruction as well as supervised clinical exploration of equipment.  After completion of the seven-hour course and successful completion of written evaluation, the student will be presented with a certificate to legally monitor patients using nitrous oxide under the direct supervision of a dentist in the state of North Carolina.
